QLD Environmental Approvals & Nature Impact

"The inability of the reforms to deal with the ongoing large-scale clearing of native vegetation is a major problem, particularly when it poses a clear and well recognised threat to the health of one of Queensland’s greatest assets."

Audiences heard directly from keynote speaker, Dr Ken Henry AC, Chair, The Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation, who outlined the key challenges and opportunities towards creating more consistent environmental approvals, better integration between state and national processes and high-quality data to support faster, more transparent decision-making. A valuable discussion on how Queensland can advance major projects while protecting its unique natural landscapes.

An expert panel then took to the stage, which included:

- Bill McCredie, Partner, Allens
- Jana Dore, Policy Director External Affairs, Queensland Resources Council
- Rob Lawrence, Deputy Director-General, Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation
- Dr Liz Young, Research Director, Queensland Decarbonisation Hub, Principal Research Fellow, Centre for Policy Futures, The University of Queensland
- Senior Representative, Queensland Renewable Energy Council
- Matthew Uidam, Managing Director, Earth and Environment, WSP
