NEW REPORT OUT NOW
CEDA’s channel of policy influence operates in four ways through:
Research and government engagement
Shaping public debate through our events program, roundtable series and online content
Collaboration with members through our forums and consultation program
Lifting organisational capability and behaviour through our education and peer-based learning programs
The decisions we make as a nation shape long-term outcomes for all Australians.
In recent years, governments and business have too often focused on the short-term, losing sight of the bigger picture – or ignoring it altogether. That’s why we’ve launched Progress 2050, CEDA’s vision for a better Australia. This economic dashboard, available exclusively to our members, is our first project under Progress 2050. It sets out the current state of the Australian economy – our key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Australia is facing significant structural change over the coming decades, with an ageing population, the energy transition, increasing digitization and declining productivity among other trends.
We may not be able to predict the future but we can help shape it, and the policy and economic decisions we take now will influence the long-term outcomes for the Australian economy and society. To shape the future we need to understand where we are heading and the challenges and opportunities that our nation faces.
Our research and policy landscape must broaden to ensure success and respond proactively to opportunity and new sources of prosperity. Too much public policy is reactive and focused on short-term issues.
Much has been written on the long-term trends and outlook likely to affect Australia, but less on how to respond and how to change the outlook and push for a more ambitious policy agenda. We want our work to provoke the change that matters for Australia’s thinking.

IN FOCUS: AUSTRALIA'S MIGRATION SYSTEM
Migration has delivered substantial benefits to the Australian economy and been critical to the nation’s success.
Australia needs a fit-for-purpose migration system. Substantial reform to both the temporary and permanent systems is necessary.
CEDA has collated reports and resources that focus on this policy priority area on the CEDA Migration content hub.
