Cassandra Winzar appointed CEDA Chief Economist

Outgoing Chief Economist Jarrod Ball has announced his departure from CEDA after five years, to join the Australian Energy Regulator.

Western Australia-based economist Cassandra Winzar has been appointed Chief Economist at CEDA. Cassandra has been a senior economist with CEDA for three years, having previously worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia and in the Western Australian Government.

It comes as Jarrod Ball announces his departure from CEDA to join the Australian Energy Regulator as a full time Board member from 22 May 2023.

“Jarrod has been a driving force behind CEDA’s expanding research agenda for the past five years,” CEDA Chief Executive Melinda Cilento said.

“Over that time, he has built and overseen an exceptional research program and team that has lifted the quality, influence and coverage of CEDA’s research reports and insights.

Importantly, Jarrod also increased the breadth and depth of member engagement and input into our research program, having implemented CEDA’s member advisory committees, an initiative designed to inform our research work with practical expertise and insights.

“He has also been a frequent contributor to the CEDA stage, the CEDA learning program and on the opinion pages of major media outlets.

“Although we are sad to see Jarrod go, the Board and CEDA team wish him all the best in his new role as a Board member at the AER.

“We are excited that Cassandra will continue to drive CEDA’s research agenda across CEDA’s critical areas of expertise including migration, human servicesdisadvantage, energy transition and skills.

“Cassandra is well known to our WA members and over the past year has established a broader profile based on her analysis and commentary on the WA Budget, aged care, mental health and disadvantage.

I look forward to her impact continuing to grow through our work.
