Event overview

Traditionally, WA's energy supply has relied largely on natural gas and, before that, coal but this has left the state's energy users exposed to gas price rises. Further compounding our energy choices are WA's relatively small and ageing infrastructure. This presents challenges to creating a flexible and market-based system.

Join CEDA and speakers to discuss:

  • Can WA better balance the needs of gas exporters and domestic consumers?
  • What is the long-term cost for energy inputs in WA?
  • Should the State be facilitating exploration and exploitation so to encourage higher volumes of feedstock into the system?
  • What will happen if the traditional "Asian" pricing mechanism for LNG is broken as North American shale gas disrupts the traditional market framework?
  • What is the role of gas in the domestic electricity system, and how is this evolving?
  • What is the most effective way to fund the required infrastructure upgrades?
  • Will the long-term plan for privatisation of the energy grid result in more options for major energy users?
