Event overview

The importance of international governance and multilateral cooperation to solving the global challenges of economic growth, trade, financial stability and taxation reform is paramount in today's globalised economy.

The G20 is a central institution in global economic governance, and the Brisbane Summit is a unique opportunity for Australia to shape the international agenda. With the Prime Minister signalling a commitment to practical action, what tangible outcomes will be achieved under Australia's leadership, and what impact will this have on the economy?

This event will look at:

  • Business priorities for the G20 agenda: What progress can be made in the four B20 priority areas of financing growth, human capital, infrastructure investment and trade?
  • The G20 and global financial reform: The G20 was central in developing the global reform agenda in the midst of the GFC at the 2008 Summit - but what remains to be done?
  • The G20 and international taxation: With an above OECD average corporate tax rate, Australia has a significant stake in addressing base erosion and profit shifting - but is global consensus possible?

In the lead-up to the G20 Leaders Summit, CEDA is pleased to release the policy perspective Australia's Brisbane Summit Challenge: Securing G20's future, featuring contributions from Dr John Edwards, Professor Mark Beeson and Professor Kerrie Sadiq. All guests will receive a complimentary copy of the report.
