Mal's focus is delivering positive economic and social outcomes for northern Adelaide, working with Council, the community and public and private partners to reinvigorate the region.

A focus on innovation and technology is driving transformation in northern Adelaide, with Playford evolving from a manufacturing heartland into a thriving hub of high-tech industry and digital jobs, as it strives to become South Australia’s next Smart City and provide opportunities for current and future generations to live, work and prosper in Playford.

Meet the speaker

Dr Mal Hemmerling
Chief Executive Officer, City of Playford

Mal was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the City of Playford in September 2015, following three years as the organisation’s General Manager of Asset Services. His time at Playford comes on the back of a celebrated career spanning roles across government and the private sector. As the head of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, Mal introduced Australia to Formula One racing in the 1980s; he led the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games; has held some of South Australia’s highest public service positions and continues to hold numerous board positions for prominent public and private organisations across the country.
