Meet the speaker

Peter Louca
Executive Director, Arts South Australia

Peter is a passionate advocate for the Arts in South Australia and has expertise in complex project management, high level policy development and implementation. For the past two years as Executive Director, Peter has set a new strategic direction which has seen Arts funding in South Australia stabilise and has seen increased funding to the sector, including major infrastructure investments in rejuvenation of the performing arts at the Adelaide Festival Centre and Her Majesty’s Theatre. He is also steering major proposals such as Adelaide Contemporary (a future Art Museum for the city) and a resolution to the storage of the State’s cultural heritage collections valued at over $1 billion. Peter established an export and marketing platform for South Australian artists at the world’s largest festival city Edinburgh with the Made In Adelaide program, which is now expanding into London and the USA. This comes on the back of almost two decades’ experience in leadership roles in government, including policy strategic chief adviser to senior Ministers. His own experience in the creative sector was as a graphic designer running a design studio based at Flinders University in the 1990s. Peter was born in Adelaide, the son of Greek-Cypriot immigrants running small family businesses, and has three children under 12.
