Housing Australia

Housing Australia

QLD
Aug 31
Historically low interest rates, long term economic and population growth and a tax system biasing debt over savings have contributed to housing affordability issues in Australia. The rapid pace of house price growth causes significant social and equity issues and threatens to undermine the resilience of the Australian economy.

Speakers

Dr John Edwards, Visiting Fellow, Lowy Institute and Adjunct Professor, Curtin University
Alan Kirkland, Chief Executive Officer, CHOICE
Riki Polygenis, Head of Australian Economics, NAB

Event overview

The rapid pace of house price growth causes significant social and equity issues and threatens to undermine the resilience of the Australian economy.

CEDA’s third research report for 2017 details the policy and taxation options available to governments for establishing sustainable affordable housing and considers the consequences of change, and of retaining the status-quo.

To inform efforts and address the complex issues surrounding housing CEDA will:

  • Analyse global and domestic home ownership trends and accessibility to finance;
  • Consider housing supply solutions including regulatory levers to alter land availability and usage and change the composition of housing stock;
  • Investigate the drivers of housing demand - population and income growth, tax incentives, offshore demand, and jobs growth in our cities and our regions; and
  • Discuss the provisioning of affordable housing for disadvantaged Australians, and examine the implications for wealth distribution across society and across generations.

Join CEDA’s senior audience to hear leading thinking and discuss the solutions required to house Australians now and into the future. All event attendees receive a copy of CEDA's research report.
