Event overview

CEDA's research aims to raise the level of public policy debate and discourse around the country by drawing together the best minds on key issues of the day.

CEDA's first policy perspective for 2014 - Advanced Manufacturing: Beyond the production line will discuss the potential for the sector.

Manufacturing is the third largest sector in Sydney behind financial and professional services and it has recently pipped Melbourne as the main industrial city with the sector valued at $21.7 billion (GDP by Major Capital City, SGS Economics and Planning, February 2014).

Identified by the NSW Government as one of nine key industry sectors for the State, opportunities will emerge during the next decade spurring new industries with high value-add and new emerging technologies.

This event will bring together research authors, policymakers and industry to discuss the themes and recommendations of the policy perspective and address:

  • The dynamism of manufacturing due to global trends such as technological and consumer behaviour changes and the impact of these changes;
  • Policy settings to facilitate the emergence of and transition to an advanced manufacturing sector; and
  • Case study analysis from Australian advanced manufacturing success story, Cochlear.
