CEDA in the Northern Territory is poised to gain its first members after the inaugural CEDA Northern Territory Economic and Political Overview conference this Friday.
CEDA, the Committee for Economic Development of Australia, has branches in every state and the ACT but until now has not had a Territory branch.
A sell-out audience attended the Economic and Political Overview conference to hear the views of NT Treasurer Syd Stirling, Austrade chief economist Tim Harcourt and Professor Ken Wiltshire, JD Story Professor of Public Administration at the University of Queensland.
CEDA's deputy chief executive and executive director for Queensland and the Northern Territory, Greg Meek, said he was delighted with the response to CEDA's first NT venture. A number of attendees had indicated they wanted to become foiundation members of CEDA in the Territory, he said.
CEDA's conference also attracted several Queensland businesses interested in establishing or expanding NT operations, including The Rowland Group and First Place International. Appropriately, the conference was sponsored by QANTAS, which began as the Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services.
"The Territory will be the scene of enormous economic and social development over the coming decades," he said. "CEDA intends to play its part in the Territory's development journey."
