2004-05 was a record-breaking year for the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), confirming its role as Australia's leading public policy and business forum.

Speaking at CEDA's Annual Dinner in Sydney tonight, Chairman and National President Ivan Deveson AO said CEDA had a strong year with growth in membership, events and attendance and increasing influence on the public debate through its research.

"CEDA continues to be the dominant national presence in public policy and management events for our nation's leaders and international figures," Mr Deveson said.

Last financial year, CEDA ran 245 events around the country - more than one each business day of the year. More than 21,400 people attended, a rise of almost 50 per cent in just two years.

Membership subscriptions continue to rise. CEDA now has more than 850 member organisations, including many of Australia's business, government, academic and community leaders.

Sponsorship income was up 34 per cent, with strong support from new and existing sponsors.

CEDA's research program was particularly influential in driving policy debate on infrastructure and water over the year.

Mr Deveson said the focus for 2006 will be advocating for a third wave of reform for Australia, to maintain economic momentum and living standards.

New research on some of the biggest challenges Australia is facing - including health, defence and international competitiveness - will be released next year.
