CEDA

Frequently-asked media questions

What media members most often want to know about CEDA.

What is CEDA all about?

CEDA is a not-for-profit think-tank and membership organisation devoted to researching and discussing Australia's economic development. See more in the About Us section.

What does CEDA offer the media

CEDA provides non-partisan, plain-language explanations of the issues affecting Australia's economic development. It is not a lobby group, nor is it aligned to one side of politics or the other. CEDA members come from a broad spectrum of business, governments (federal, state and local), the universities and community groups. We aim to explain policy challenges and options in a well-informed and balanced way.

What CEDA research does the media have access to?

See the research section of our website, which contains detailed summaries. Media can obtain full copies of CEDA research reports by contacting us.

Does "think-tank" imply you have a particular political point of view?

No. CEDA aims to develop debate rather than close it off. We bring facts and expertise to debate, and develop and publicise realistic options. We aim for economic development with social responsibility, independent of politics.

What is CEDA's history and reputation?

CEDA was founded in 1960 by Sir Douglas Copland, perhaps the most important single figure in Australian economics. It is chaired by Ivan Deveson, and our board of governors includes figures such as former prime ministers Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke, academics Professor Adrienne Clarke and Nobel laureate Professor Peter Doherty, noted business figures Richard Warburton and Michael Chaney, and former Reserve Bank deputy governor John Phillips.

CEDA is Australia's best-known non-partisan policy and business think tank.

What issues does CEDA comment publicly on?

CEDA spokespeople comment on a broad range of economic issues, from monetary policy to water supply to the effectiveness of business management. We have a special focus on the topics in our research program and on issues of business leadership.
