CEDA welcomes new National CEO

CEDA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr David Byers as the National CEO of CEDA. David will join CEDA on 1 March 2007 and be based in Melbourne.


CEDA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr David Byers as the National CEO of CEDA.

David was born in Brisbane in 1960. He holds degrees in Economics (Queensland University, 1980) and Law (Queensland University of Technology, 1990) and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1991.

David worked in a variety of roles in the fields of Industrial Relations and Human Resources for BHP, Evans Deakin Industries and Woodside Petroleum before joining Brisbane law firm, Morris Fletcher and Cross. In 1990, David joined Mobil Oil Australia in Melbourne and was subsequently appointed Director Corporate Services and a member of the Board of Directors of Mobil Oil Australia.

In 1999, he was assigned to Singapore as Director Human Resources Mobil Asia Pacific, with responsibility for Human Resources across Mobil’s operations in Asia Pacific.

Following the global merger between Exxon and Mobil, in 2000, David was assigned to ExxonMobil’s corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas and was subsequently appointed to the position of Global Issues and Planning Manager, Corporate Public Affairs. In mid 2003, David returned to Australia as Head of Public Affairs for ExxonMobil’s operations in Australia, PNG, NZ and Pacific Islands. In August 2005, David’s role was expanded to include Human Resources. His present role is General Manager, Human Resources & Public Affairs for ExxonMobil’s operations in Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Pacific Islands.

David and his wife, Trudi, have three children. His interests include reading, public policy analysis and sport.

The CEDA Board has confidence that David is qualified to further strengthen CEDA’s role in emerging economic and social issues.

David Byers will commence with CEDA on 1 March 2007 and until then, Mr Greg Meek will continue as Acting CEO. On 1 March, Greg will be promoted to Deputy CEO of CEDA. Greg will continue in the role of Executive Director Queensland and Northern Territory and also assume additional responsibility for national membership and sponsorship.
