Professor Paul J. Gollan, Professor of Management and Director and Head, Australian Institute of Business and Economics, University of Queensland

What does your organisation do?

The Australian Institute for Business and Economics (AIBE) seeks to establish the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law of the University of Queensland (UQ) as the leading provider of business and economic research in Australia, and to enhance the international reputation of the Faculty.

The mission for AIBE is to build on the strong links between UQ, industry, community, and government, and facilitate and explore new opportunities for engagement and collaboration with external organisations.

What is your role with the organisation?

As a Director for AIBE, I have a vision of ensuring the objectives and aims of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law are achieved. These objectives include the Faculty being a centre for excellence in business that provides quality education and leadership in research for the benefit of our graduates and the wider community. I always aim to facilitate high quality research and research publications, increase research collaboration, increase the number of external grants, expand the Faculty’s engagement with the Asia-Pacific region, and initiate and sponsor informed debate on prominent topics in business and policy.

I have extensive experience in the area of research having previously worked as a Professor of Management and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Macquarie University.

Who is your favourite/most influential speaker at a CEDA event?

It is always good to hear Professor Ian Harper speak, he is very passionate about the Australian economy. Michele Levine, CEO of Roy Morgan is also highly influential speaker and very passionate about the Australian Economy and the Australian population.

What type of CEDA activities matter mot to you and your organisation?

I feel the CEDA activities which are very influential to UQ and AIBE are in the area of research reports, the Economic and Political Overview series, series of presentations, focus small group and boardroom briefing luncheon events with the CEDA members are also very useful and informative to AIBE and UQ.

Why is your company a member of CEDA?

Being a member of CEDA provides UQ and AIBE with the opportunity to be more engaged with the other industries and the government sector within the area of research. We believe CEDA is a platform which provides UQ and AIBE an opportunity to explore high level of networking and creating strong links between industry, community, and government, and facilitating and exploring new opportunities for engagement and collaboration with external organisations in the area of research.
